Privacy policy
Effective date: 2026-10-20
Blur Text is a Chrome extension that hides personal data on web pages. It is built to work without sending anything anywhere. This policy explains exactly what that means.
What we collect
Nothing. Blur Text does not collect, receive or store your personal data, browsing history, page content or screenshots on any server. The extension does not make network requests of its own, and it has no analytics, tracking or advertising.
What is stored, and where
- Settings. Your preferences, such as which categories of data to mask, are stored in
chrome.storage.sync. This is part of your own Chrome profile. If you have Chrome sync turned on, Chrome syncs it across your devices under your Google account. We never have access to it. - Screenshots. When you capture a screenshot, it is held locally in your browser only so the editor can open it. It is deleted from extension storage once the editor has loaded it. Screenshots are never uploaded. A screenshot leaves the editor only when you choose to copy or download it.
- Page content. To find and mask personal data, the extension reads the text of the page you are on, inside your browser. That text is processed locally and is not stored or transmitted.
Permissions
- storage saves your settings.
- scripting and activeTab let the extension run on the page you are viewing and capture the visible tab when you ask it to.
- Site access is requested as an optional permission, so you decide on which sites the extension may run. It is used only to detect and mask data on those pages.
Sharing with third parties
None. We do not sell, share or transfer data to anyone, because we do not have any data.
Remote code
The extension does not load or run code from the internet. All of its code ships inside the extension package.
Limits of the tool
Detection is automatic and can miss things, and masking is visual only. Please review a page or screenshot before you share it. See the limitations on the home page.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the new version will be published on this page with an updated effective date.
